Wait I missed Tuesday?
Yesterday we had to go to the ward office because I had to prove that I’m a legal alien before we could finish registering Elliot.
It’s my own fault - I renewed my visa and totally forgot to update the situation with them and on my gaijin card. They asked me to write a reason why I had missed the deadline - I just looked down at Elliot in his sling and then wearily back at the lady behind the counter. She told me to just write “I had a baby” in English and wrote the changes on my card.
Anyway Mum is now all official again and Elliot is safely registered and covered by health insurance.
Elliot was pretty good out and roaming around in the sling even though it was really tricky to sort out how to get comfy for both of us at the beginning. Still not quite there. He just slept the whole time. Even when the droves of older Japanese women were mobbing us for a lookie at him…

I did exactly the same thing with my gaijin card. But my excuse to them was that I was busy and hadn’t had time. They sighed and just fixed it up.
The immigration office used to put in a paper reminder when they renewed the visa to say you had to go to the ward office bbut they stopped doing that so I forgot it had to be done.
Now when in doubt, I go to the ward office when anything has changed.
Next step for you is passport. I think you need to produce the child for them to actually sight - but that means a trip to the Aus Embassy.

Im glad the sling is coming in handy! I had a feeling it might be a bit tricky at the start, but i can well imagine that for him, its much like being back in the womb. I hope it gets easier.

When we were getting Zen’s first passport we thought that it would be easier just to apply for a Japanese one.
Chizu went to the office to get it and noticed that on his Japanese passport, his name was written in Romaji as UDDOWADO ZEN.
We complained and they said that we needed to bring evidence that the correct spelling was WOODWARD. So, off I went to the British Embassy with his Birth Certificate to get them to issue a British Birth Certificate with the correct spelling for benefit the Japanese Passport office…
