Learnin’
Over the last couple of weeks they seem to have been a lot of big steps for EM on the development front. He’s always liked looking at books and having them read to him, but lately he interacts with them a lot more (including gnawing on them .... sigh) - especially this one which has pull back sections to reveal the hiding baby animals. We read it about 8 times a day but he’s still delighted to find the little critters there behind the paper flaps.
He’s also trying out a variety of English and Japanese words - although he seems to understand more English probably because I’m talking to him all day long. He does say a mix of “itta (idda)” and “there (deeea)” which mean the same thing pretty much when reading a couple of these books.
Baby signing hasn’t been going so well because I’m the only one who does it, so it’s not reinforced that it’s a good way to communicate. His understanding of my words and gestures though has risen dramatically. He can go and look for and fetch whichever toy I suggest he gets - koala, kitty, book, ball, actions such as shake, dance and more recently “put that on the table” or “put that on the shelf”. Instead of getting cranky at him ripping all the shoes off of the shelves and leaving them around or taking all the books out of his library, we’ve been training on putting them back. Each item placed back on a shelf gets a round of applause (which he joins in). Not sure how long this will last but he picked it up pretty quickly.
He’s also decided to be independent during the warm up at swimming class and do the exercises by himself. He gets some of them and others he just gives his interpretation. I guide him a little but I think he’ll get it in a couple of weeks anyway so I’m keen to let him work it out for himself pretty much.
Aside from that puzzles are becoming less of things you just pull apart and throw around the room, no door is a barrier and Mum’s iPhone is just about the best forbidden toy EVER.

Does he call you Mama?
When do you think you can put him to work writing code?
