Grimace, Self Portrait

Been a rough weekend with very patchy sleep and lots of 3 yr old rebellion. Everything I ask or say EM goes against it, frustrating both of us. I hate playing the Bad Guy but I also hate patching up avoidable scrapes and wading through floors ankle deep in toys.
So today, after 3 days of asking, I confiscated any toy still on the floor. Lunch took 3 hours as I refused to give into demands for ice cream until plates were finished. I let EM choose how much he wants to eat though so I’m hoping this will help him understand sensible portion sizes. He has 3 bruises from doing the exact opposite to what I said - the reason I say them is to avoid ouchies of course - not because I’m a spoilsport.
He’s in bed asleep now half dressed in pajamas because he fell asleep on the couch defying me asking him to get in the shower, pjs and bed.
Looking forward to this phase being over for sure.

If you haven’t read it yet, check out “Parent Effectiveness Training.” It’s about communication techniques that work like magic to keep you from being the Bad Guy and also keep you both sane. Works with grown-up, too. I am definitely a convert and find that my life is a lot nicer now that I know and apply these ideas frequently.
